My two most important work-from-home tips
As someone who has been working from home every day for the past four years, I’ve had a lot of people reach out to me recently about getting some tips for remote work.
I shared the two most important things on my work Slack this weekend, and thought it would be worth sharing them here, too:
Had a lot of people ask me for WFH tips, so here are two of the things that are most important when you’re working from home:
1. Be patient and kind with others. In many cases, a lot of the people you work with won’t be used to working remotely. They will forget to put themselves on mute, or will mess up their audio setup, or just not fully grok how it all works. Things will mess up, calls will drop, and you will get frustrated. Just know that we’re all doing our best, and that’s all we can ask of others, too.
2. Be patient and kind with yourself. This is a time of a lot of changing information, and the cognitive and emotional load will be heavy. You may not find yourself as productive as you usually are, or as focused, or you may even find yourself making small mistakes. Forgive yourself for those. We are all doing our best, and it’s important to remember that you’re human, and you deserve the compassion you give to others.
The rest of the tips and tricks all come secondary if you follow those two big ones.
If you have any questions, or need someone to help you work through any of the above, let me know. I’m here to help—I may not always get it right, but I’ll try my best.
